Simanjiro, Tanzania

In 2014, Building Bridges Worldwide partnered with BeSomeoneNYC to construct a school in the Maasai community of Simanjiro, Tanzania.  It will be called the St. Namelok School, and will feature an e-learning center that will enable students to access a wide range of educational content, allowing the teachers to develop a Maasai specific curriculum.

The Maasai are one of the most famous and most respected tribes in all of Africa.  However, much like the experience of Native Americans in the United States, the Maasai have been increasingly disenfranchised over the past few decades.  As a Maasai run private school, the community will be able to attend school in their traditional clothing and learn in their native language.

After a week of construction work in the village, volunteers had the option to go on Safari, climb Mount Kilimanjaro, or relax on the beach in Zanzibar.  As the school grows, additional phases are under construction, so please contact us if you are interested in volunteering in Tanzania.

BeSomeOneNYC continues to oversee the operations of the school.  An all volunteer run community organization based in New York City,  BeSomeOneNYC believes that everyone innately has the power to positively impact the world we live in by engaging the global population as one small community.  The organization calls social responsibility into action by putting its own individual unique skills together as a team and seeking innovative ways to bring sustainability and hands on aid to projects that need it most.
