Quebrada Honda, Nicaragua

In July 2015, BBW collaborated with MBA candidates from the University of Texas’ McCombs School of Business to raise funds for and begin construction of an agricultural training center and processing facility in the northern Nicaraguan village of Quebrada Honda. The facility is adjacent to the village secondary school and will be used by students at the school.

Over the course of 5 days volunteers worked alongside local residents to dig ditches, mix cement and shape re-bar, all in service of laying the foundation and erecting the outside walls of the building. Volunteers also made numerous wheelbarrow trips – some with loads full of dirt, others with a cargo of eager local children excited to get a ride! We helped to tutor local students with their English while also seizing the opportunity to improve our Spanish.

As of January 2016 the facility is operational.
