Santa Palencia, Guatemala

Building Bridges Worldwide and the McCombs School of Business are excited to be organizing our annual McCombs MAP Trip for 2018. This year we are visiting a community called Santa Palencia in Guatemala. We will be constructing and refurbishing schools and bathrooms for the children of the community. This will dramatically improve their learning conditions and obviously, make playtime that much more fun! Incoming MBA students will travel to Guatemala on Saturday, July 21st and return to the Austin on Saturday, July 28th.

Program participants will spend five days and nights in the village of Santa Palencia. Once in the village, students will work each day on the construction of a pre-school to replace the existing wooden structure and a new playground for all of the children.

On this trip, we are partnering with a company called Eleva Coffee that sources their coffee beans from the farmers in Santa Palencia. This is something new we are adding this year, to give students an inside look at how the local farmers participate in international markets.

At the conclusion of the trip, volunteers will travel back to Texas for MBA orientation.  The trip will also impact MBA students through the friendships forged and lasting memories made.
